470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 4
Friday, February 26, 2016 (Image © Matias Capizzano)
For the first time, the day started with enough wind allowing both fleets to complete the full program. An intensive race day with three heats sailed in a 10-12 kn breeze challenged the teams at their utmost. In addition to the unconstant and circling wind, there was 'gardening' on the program, as the huge sea-weed patches influenced the ranking substantially. Today, another two Final Series races are planned to select the 10 best per fleet for Saturday's Medal Races.
With again a race win, Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA consolidated the first place in the 470 women. New on rank 2, finishing as day's best on the ranks 7/1/2, are Xiaoli Wang/Lizhu Huang CHN. The USA surprise team Sydney Bolger/Carly Shevitz USA follows on rank 3 in front of the defending champions Vadlau/Ogar AUT. Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA had two bad races and dropped on rank 6, 11 points behind Bolger/Shevitz USA. Allie Surrette/Alexandra Ten Hove CAN are 37th.
Leader change in the 470 men, as the previous first Ashenati/Hudson RSA finished three times in the twenties. Snow-Hansen/Willcox NZL are on top ahead of Fantela/Marenic CRO. Belcher/Ryan AUS are now already on 3rd with a 9 points' backlog on the leaders. The battle for the Medal Race will be exciting today, as the ranks 9 to 12 are separated by 9 points only. Amidst this pack are Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA 9 places up on 10th after a solid day with the ranks 2/8/8. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN are up on position 30 again.
