After an early-morning thunderstorm, the last two Final Series races could be sailed yesterday in the afternoon in a 15-17 kn breeze.
Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO had a great day finishing 1st and 2nd, a preliminary decision as they start to the Medal Race with a considerable 13 points' advance on Paul Snow-Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL, and 15 points on the defending champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS. The Croats were 470 World Champions in 2009 already before the Australian Olympic Champions started their domination with six Worlds titles in a row. Bouvet/Mion FRA on 4th, 8 points behind Silver, will also play a role in the fight for Medals today. Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA on rank 12 missed the Medal Race by 10 points. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN remain on the 32nd place.
On pole position in the women's 470s are Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA 6 points ahead of the defending champions Lara Vadlau/Jolanta Ogar AUT on rank 2, best of the day yesterday. Only one point behind are the Olympic Champions Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie NZL on 3rd. Theoretical chance for the title have also Huang/Wang on 4th (backlog 12 points) and Oliveira/Barbachan BRA (backlog 14 points). 10 points is the advantage of Sydney Bolger/Carly Sevitz USA on Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA before the Medal Race, i.e. 5 ranks in the double-points-no-discard final countdown to determine the better US-470-women's team. Allie Surrette/Alexandra Ten Hove CAN finish the event on the 37th position.
