Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results, ranks 5 and 8 for USA sailors
All kind of conditions prevailed yesterday under overcast sky and thundery weather on Hyères Bay with winds of 3 to 25 kn. By the end of the day, the breeze had vanished to almost nothing and the men windsurfer Medal Race had to be cancelled. Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO were the premature winners in the 470 men before the Medal Race already. Belcher/Ryan AUS and Calabreses/De la Fuente ARG completed the podium. McNay/Hughes USA, winners of the Medal Race, finished 5th overall. Change on top of the 470 women where Hannah Mills/Sakia Clark GBR finishing 3rd in the Medal Race controlled the direct opponents Oliveira/Barbachan BRA and Lecointre/Defrance FRA who finally terminated tied on 2nd and 3rd just one point behind the English winners.
Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL, dominators of the 49ers since the London/Weymouth 2012 Olympics, won the Hyères Worldcup with a 46 points' advantage ! Warrer/Lübeck DEN and Philipps/Philipps AUS finished on the ranks 2 and 3. Celebrating their first important international victory were Lisa Ericson/Hanna Klinga SWE in the 49ersFX. Grael/Kunze BRA finished on the 2nd place 2 points back. Hansen/Salskov DEN moved up on position 3 in the final rankings.
The Finn regatta ended with an Australian 1 and 2 victory by Jake Lilley AUS and Oliver Tweddell AUS. Jonthan Lobert FRA advanced on rank 3 on the last day. Caleb Paine USA won the Medal Race, but remained on rank 8 overall only 4 points behind Bronze ! Winning the Nacra 17 Medal Race, Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP replaced Vittorio Bissaro/Silvia Sicouri ITA at equal points on top. Mandy Mulder/Coen de Koning NED earned Bronze.
No ranking modifications in the RS:X women windsurfers with Zofia Noceti-Klpecka POL winning ahead of Bryony Shaw GBR and Charline Picon FRA. The standings of Saturday in the RS:X men windsurfers became final after the cancellation of the Medal Race in Hyères. Piotr Myszka POL ahead of Pawel Tarnowski POL and Nick Dempsey GBR stood on the podium.

Some classes sailed their Medal Races in a light breeze while the Lasers enjoyed wind peaks of almost 20 kn. 
As forecast, the breeze frehened up to 20 kn during the day, and the last qualification races before today's Medal Race brought some modifications in the general rankings. Two overall winners - 49ers and 470 open - are already known, as they cannot be overtaken in the last heats today.

Only one race was sailed on the windy up to 30 kn first day, but yesterday, the breeze was back to 'normal' around 10 kn, and both Paralympic Classes completed two heats. 
Much wind on the opening day of the Hyères Olympic Week yesterday. The initial 18 kn increased to up to 30 kn during the day, but nevertheless, all classes - except the 49ersFX - completed at least one race. It was not only the strong breeze, but also the up to 50° shifts from the Mistral blowing from the West shore that made racing tactically challenging.
