Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results, ranks 5 and 8 for USA sailors

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results, ranks 5 and 8 for USA sailors All kind of conditions prevailed yesterday under overcast sky and thundery weather on Hyères Bay with winds of 3 to 25 kn. By the end of the day, the breeze had vanished to almost nothing and the men windsurfer Medal Race had to be cancelled.
Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO were the premature winners in the 470 men before the Medal Race already. Belcher/Ryan AUS and Calabreses/De la Fuente ARG completed the podium. McNay/Hughes USA, winners of the Medal Race, finished 5th overall. Change on top of the 470 women where Hannah Mills/Sakia Clark GBR finishing 3rd in the Medal Race controlled the direct opponents Oliveira/Barbachan BRA and Lecointre/Defrance FRA who finally terminated tied on 2nd and 3rd just one point behind the English winners.
Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL, dominators of the 49ers since the London/Weymouth 2012 Olympics, won the Hyères Worldcup with a 46 points' advantage ! Warrer/Lübeck DEN and Philipps/Philipps AUS finished on the ranks 2 and 3. Celebrating their first important international victory were Lisa Ericson/Hanna Klinga SWE in the 49ersFX. Grael/Kunze BRA finished on the 2nd place 2 points back. Hansen/Salskov DEN moved up on position 3 in the final rankings.
The Finn regatta ended with an Australian 1 and 2 victory by Jake Lilley AUS and Oliver Tweddell AUS. Jonthan Lobert FRA advanced on rank 3 on the last day. Caleb Paine USA won the Medal Race, but remained on rank 8 overall only 4 points behind Bronze ! Winning the Nacra 17 Medal Race, Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP replaced Vittorio Bissaro/Silvia Sicouri ITA at equal points on top. Mandy Mulder/Coen de Koning NED earned Bronze.
No ranking modifications in the RS:X women windsurfers with Zofia Noceti-Klpecka POL winning ahead of Bryony Shaw GBR and Charline Picon FRA. The standings of Saturday in the RS:X men windsurfers became final after the cancellation of the Medal Race in Hyères. Piotr Myszka POL ahead of Pawel Tarnowski POL and Nick Dempsey GBR stood on the podium.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Final results without NorAm participation Some classes sailed their Medal Races in a light breeze while the Lasers enjoyed wind peaks of almost 20 kn.
Finishing on rank 2 behind Andrew Maloney NZL, Philipp Buhl GER climbed on the first place in the Lasers Standard, 3 points ahead of Sam Meech NZL. Tom Burton AUS dropped on rank 3.
The experienced Evi Van Acker BEL controlled the qualification leader Josefin Olsson SWE during the whole Medal Race and sailed her in a matchracing style down the rankings to replace her on top of the overall classifications. The World Champion Alison Young GBR moved up on rank 3.

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 4, McNay/Hughes 470 and Caleb Paine Finn in Medal Races As forecast, the breeze frehened up to 20 kn during the day, and the last qualification races before today's Medal Race brought some modifications in the general rankings. Two overall winners - 49ers and 470 open - are already known, as they cannot be overtaken in the last heats today.
Once more, Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL dominated the 49ers and their advance on the 2nd-ranked is 46 points ! William Philipps/Sam Philipps AUS and Jonas Warrer/Christian Lübeck DEN 2 points behind will duel for Silver and Bronze today. In the 49ersFX, the surprise team Lisa Ericson/Hanna Klinga SWE tied with Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA on top will fight for the final win.
With a 19 points' lead, Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO are thru in the 470 men. Belcher/Ryan AUS, Dahlberg/Bergström SWE and Calabrese/De la Fuente ARG separated by 4 points only will fight for 2nd and 3rd. Exciting is the situation in the 470 women where the new leaders Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA are only one point ahead of Hannah Mills/Saskia Clarke GBR. Another 3 points back are Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Luiza Barbachan BRA with chances for victory.
With a race win, Jake Lilley AUS is now the clear leader in the Finns with a 7 points' advance on the first challenger. The ranks 2 (Anders Pedersen NOR) to 5 (Oliver Tweddell AUS) are separated by 4 points only. In the Nacra 17, Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA have to accept the first defeat for a long time. As 6th, the have no chance to climb on rank 1, occupied for the moment by Ben Saxton/Nicolas Groves GBR and Vittorio Bissaro/Silvia Sicouri ITA at equal points. Echevarri/Pacheco ESP as 3rd are only 2 points behind.
Change on rank 1 in the RS:X men windsurfers where Piotr Myszka POL and Pawel Tarnowski POL will fight for victory. Nick Dempsey GBR follows on rank 3. The first in the RS:X women windsurfers Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL is 6 points in front of Bryony Shaw GBR.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 4, no USA or CAN boats in today's Medal Races The last qualification races before today's Medal Races were sailed in a freshing wind yesterday.
In the Lasers Radial, a duel behind Josefin Olsson SWE and Evi Van Acker BEL 2 points behind will decide for the Hyères winner. Inspite of two race wins yesterday, the World Champion Alison Young GBR on 3rd will not be able to interfere in the fight for victory with a 21 points' backlog. Isabelle Bertold CAN is 18th.
Exciting will be the battle for rank 1 in the Lasers Standard where Tom Burton AUS has a 5 points' lead on the tied Philipp Buhl GER and Matthew Wearn AUS. Sam Meech NZL is only one point farther back. Robert Davis is 31st, Chris Barnard USA 36th.

 2.4m, Sonar - Paralympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Final results The two Paralympic Classes concluded the Hyères Worldcup with two races yesterday.
Matthew Bugg AUS underlined his good form with the race ranks 1 and 2 yesterday and is the clear overall winner in the 2.4m keelboats ahead of Björnar Erikstad NOR and Damien Séguin FRA. Dee Smith USA is 6th.
In the Sonars, Aleksander Wang-Hansen/Marie Solberg/Per-Eugen Kristiansen NOR climbed on rank 1 on the final day ahead of Hanna Stodel GBR and Alphonsus Doerr USA with their teams, completing the podium. Doerr/Kendall/Freund USA are 3rd, Tingley/Campbell/Lutes CAN 8th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 3, McNay/Hughes 470 men, Haeger/Provancha 470 women and Isabelle Bertold CAN Radial struggle for the Medal Race today The Hyères Worldcup event continued yesterday after some waiting for wind, but some classes completed just one race in the light breeze.
In the 470 men, a duel between the Olympic Champions Belcher/Ryan AUS and the World Champions Fantela/Marenic CRO, only one point behind the leaders after yesterday's race win, is in the making. The 3rd-ranked Dahlberg/Bergström SWE are now 11 points back. The Qualification Series to select the 10 best will end with the last races today. Finishing 2nd yesterday, Oliveira/Barbachan BRA have taken the lead in the 470 women, but Mills/Clark GBR are only one point behind. Another point back are Aleh/Powrie NZL and Lecointre/Defrance FRA at equal points on rank 3.
This evening, Burling/Tuke NZL will most probably add another overall victory in the 49ers, as their advance on Philipps/Philipps AUS - still on rank 2 despite of a bad day - is now already 37 points. Warrer/Lübeck DEN stay on rank 3. In the 49ersFX, Ericson/Klinga SWE extended their lead on 13 points. Bekkering/Duetz NED follow as 2nd, and the best of the day Grael/Kunze BRA moved up on rank 3.
Two Australians are tied on top of the Finns with Jack Lilley AUS and Oliver Tweddell AUS. Ivan Kljakovic CRO is new on rank 3. A leader change happened also in the Nacra 17, where the day's best Mulder/De Koning NED are now first. Waterhouse/Darmanin AUS and Bissarro/Secouri ITA are the first chasers.
Nick Dempsey GBR is the new leader in the RS:X men windsurfers with Piotr Myszka POL and Louis Giard FRA tied on the ranks 2 and 3 with a 3 points' backlog. In the RS:X women is Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL back on top with Bryony Shaw GBR 10 points back on the 2nd position.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 3, Isabelle Bertold CAN rank 12 The Hyères Worldcup continued yesterday with two races sailed in a light wind.
New on top of the Lasers Standard is now Tom Burton AUS, 13 points ahead of Sam Meech NZL. Matthew Wearn AUS follows on rank 3. Philipp Buhl GER, leading since the first day, dropped on rank 5. Today, the qualifications for the Medal Race will be concluded.
Evi Van Acker BEL defended her lead in the Lasers Radial. The best of the day (ranks 2/2) Josefin Olsson SWE reduced the gap on the leading Belgian on 3 points. Veronika Kozelska-Fenclova CZE follows as 3rd.

 2.4m, Sonar - Paralympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 3, Doerr USA on top of Sonars In both Paralympic Classes, the points' gaps between the leading boats are very small before the last races today.
In the 2.4m, the advantage of Matthew Bugg AUS on Helena Lucas GBR is down on 2 points, and only another point back, Björnar Erikstad NOR and Damien Séguin FRA have a real chance for the title. Dee Smith USA remains 7th. New leaders in the Sonars with Alphonsus Doerr USA and his team, but the best of the day (1/2) Aleksander Wang-Hansen NOR and his team are only 2 points behind. The team of Hanna Stodel GBR descended on the 3rd place. The team of Paul Tingley CAN is 8th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 2 After the windy first day, there were moderate conditions on Hyères Bay yesterday with a 8-12 kn wind.
Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS proved once more to be the best allrounders in the 470 men's fleet and won again one of the two races. They lead overall with a 3 points' advance on Fantela/Marenic CRO. On rank 3 follows the surprise team Cinar/Cinar TUR. Best of the day in the 470 women were Hannah Mills/Saskia Clarke GBR who replaced Aleh/Powrie NZL on rank 1 with the same number of points. Lecointre/Defrance FRA moved up on rank 3.
The 49er FX, not sailing on the opening day, completed four races yesterday. Lisa Ericson/Hanna Klinga SWE realized two race wins and ar the first leaders in front of Bekkering/Duetz NED 2nd and Steyaert/Compan FRA 3rd. Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL extended their lead in the 49ers, but Philipps/Philipps AUS kept contact with the leaders. The 3rd-ranked Warrer/Lübeck DEN and Pink/Bithell GBR at equal points are already 24 points behind.
Jake Lilley AUS replaced Josh Junior NZL on top of the Finns with two race wins. Oliver Twedell AUS and Caleb Paine USA follow on rank 3 with the same number of points. New on top of the Nacra 17 are Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP, but the key favorites Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA are already on rank 2.
Pawel Tarnowski POL defended his lead in the RS:X men windsurfers. New names however on the ranks 2 and 3 with Nick Dempsey GBR and Pierre Le Coq FRA. In the RS:X women windsurfers, Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL is the new leader ahead of Bryony Shaw GBR and Marina Alabau ESP.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 2 The big-breeze specialist Philipp Buhl GER had all motivation to keep the slower pace in the moderate 10 kn wind yesterday and with a 4th place, he succeeded to stay on top of the Lasers Standard. New on the ranks 2 and 3 are the experienced Tom Burton AUS and Nick Thompson GBR. Fillah Karim CAN is 30th, Chris Barnard USA 35th.
No change also on the first place of the Lasers Radial where Evi Van Acker BEL remains first ahead of Veronika Kozelska-Fenclova CZE. With two race wins, Anne-Marie Rindom DEN advanced on the 3rd position. Isabella Bertold CAN is 22nd.

 2.4m, Sonar - Paralympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 2, Doerr and his team 2nd Only one race was sailed on the windy up to 30 kn first day, but yesterday, the breeze was back to 'normal' around 10 kn, and both Paralympic Classes completed two heats.
Matthew Bugg AUS defended his lead in the 2.4m ahead of Bjornar Erikstad NOR. Helena Lucas GBR is new on rank 3. Dee Smith USA is 7th. Hannah Stodal GBR und her team remain on top of the Sonars with Alphonsus Doerr USA new on rank 2. Tingley/Campbell/Lutes CAN 11th Tingley/Campbell/Lutes CAN are on the 11th position.

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 1, Paine USA (Finn) 2nd, Lepert USA (RS:X women) 5th Much wind on the opening day of the Hyères Olympic Week yesterday. The initial 18 kn increased to up to 30 kn during the day, but nevertheless, all classes - except the 49ersFX - completed at least one race. It was not only the strong breeze, but also the up to 50° shifts from the Mistral blowing from the West shore that made racing tactically challenging.
The experienced Belcher/Ryan AUS kept control in the 470 men with the day ranks 1 and 2, taking the overall lead ahead of Patience/Grube GBR and Fantela/Marenic CRO. Demonstration also from the 470 women Olympic Champions Aleh/Powrie NZL with Skrzypulec/Mrozek POL and Oliveira/Barbachan BRA as first chasers. The favorites lead also in the 49ers after three races with Burling/Tuke NZL ahead of Philipps/Philipps AUS and Pink/Bithell GBR. In the Finns, Josh Junior NZL is in the lead ahead of Caleb Paine USA and Oliver Tewddell AUS. Only one race with numerous abandonments and capsizes happened in the Nacra 17. Vaireaux/Audinet FRA were the race winners followed by Echevarri/Pacheco ESP and Jones/Saunders NZL. Winning 2 of the 3 heats in the RS:X men windsurfers was Pawel Tarnowski POL with Joao Rodrigues POR and Thomas Goyard FRA on the rank 2 and 3. The surprising leader in the RS:X women is Hélène Noesmoen FRA with 2 wins in 3 races, leaving the big-breeze specialists Maja Dziarnowska POL and Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL on the ranks 2 and 3.  2.4m, Sonar - Paralympic Worldcup 2016 - Hyères FRA - Day 1 The two Paralympic classes present at the Hyères Worldcup Regatta - the 2.4 m and the Sonars - completed only one race each.
Matthew Bugg AUS was the winner in the 2.4m ahead of Antonio Squizzato ITA and Björnar Erikstad NOR. Dee Smith USA finished 4th among the 19 participants from 10 nations. In the Sonars, Hanna Stodel/John Robertson/Steve Thomas GBR are in the lead followed by Bruno Jourdren/Eric Flageul/Nicolas Vimont-Vicary FRA. Doerr/Kendall/Freund USA are 9th, Tingley/Campbell/Lutes CAN 10th (DNF) among the 12 teams from 9 nations.

Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Start today with North American teams

 Olympic Worldcup 2016 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Start today with North American teams The third Act of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Classes World Cup begins in Hyères FRA today. Since four days, a well-established Mistral breeze and sun have been prevailing, and according to the wind forecast, peaks of up to 28 kn will challenge the teams today, probably too much for some of the classes.
The nations' qualifications for the Rio Olympic Regatta have been concluded and some nations are selecting their Olympic representatives during the remaining Worldcup events. 574 boats from 46 nations are present in the South of France, among them most Olympic favorites testing their form with direct opponents. As from Friday, the Medal Races will be broadcast as usual live on our website.
