The only North American team in the Medal Races yesterday, the 470 Mixed team Louisa Nordstrom/Trevor Bornarth USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team), finished the Championship - after a premature start disqualification in the last race - on rank 10 among the 34 participants, a premising performance for their future in this new Olympic class. ----- Here, as reported yesterday, the final results of all other North American participants in the last important 470 event before the Olympics: Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA 17th, Jacob Saunders/Oliver Bone CAN 22nd and Shawn Harvey/Augie Dale USA 23rd among the 29 men teams.; Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss USA 12th and Carmen Emma Cowles USA 15 among the 18 women teams. --------------- The Medal Races were sailed in Vilamoura POR yesterday in light winds. France took gold in both the men's and women's races, with Israel taking the mixed title. ----- Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA won the Medal Race and grasped the title with an 18 point advantage. After the second-ranked Spanish team Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Barcelo ESP disqualified for a premature start, Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR and Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI completed the podium. ----- In the 470 men, Paul Snow-Hanson/Daniel Willcox NZL finished first in the overall Open rankings, while Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA, ranked 2nd, secured the European title. Perfect conditions prevailed again yesterday in the south of Portugal with moderate winds and summer temperatures above 25°C. Today, the last two qualifying races for tomorrow's Medal Races will be sailed. After 9 races, exciting battles for the titles are ahead. ----- In the 470 women, Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP are only 3 points ahead of Camille Le Cointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA. 10 points behind, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI in 3rd place are still in the title race. ----- Exploiting their full potential finishing 2nd in the last race of the day, Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss USA (St. Francis YC/St. Thomas YC) advanced to 12th reducing the gap on rank 10 to 4 points.
